Twilight Tactics' intriguing cover drew me in, but the premise kept me reading—a teenage girl under FBI protection after witnessing a mob murder is hiding out at a Tennessee mountain ranch where a wilderness survival expert works, hiding her own secrets to a dark, dangerous past. From the very beginning, the action begins and keeps a tight pace throughout this entire story.
With a mysterious, prepper cult, the mob and dangerous situations around every corner, there are plenty of high-intensity scenes and surprising revelations. The remote, mountain setting for this story added a great atmosphere. I especially loved the idea of a ranch that served as a trauma recovery facility for veterans, equaling as a hideout for main characters, FBI Agent Collin and survival guide, Elena.
Collin and Elena are a good match, although I did find their romance forced, making it feel expected and predictable rather than new and chemistry-filled, which I prefer. With plenty of side characters introduced and a lot of high-stakes elements in play, I found myself drawn to Ollie's character the most. I really enjoyed her part in the story!
Twilight Tactics offers an interesting premise, a unique setting, plenty of danger, and enough intensity to keep the pages turning. If you’re looking for a romantic suspense that puts a strong emphasis on high-stakes danger, this is definitely one to add to your list!
