About This Book:

She's determined to make an impact in her community.
He's determined to make sure she lives long enough to do it.

Dr. Meredith Quinn always planned to return to Gossamer Falls to practice dentistry. Now that she's back home, she's made it a point to offer clinics to children and adults in nearby underserved areas. Unfortunately, those same areas are known to harbor drug traffickers, and Police Chief Grayson Ward suspects that local law enforcement is looking the other way.

After too many losses, Grayson has closed off his heart. But with Meredith in his life, he feels his walls crumbling, leaving him exposed and vulnerable. To keep her alive, he must keep her close, but that makes it impossible for him to retreat and rebuild.

Will she be the one who finally helps him emerge from isolation? Or will this force of nature leave him shattered?

MY REVIEW: ★★★★ 4/5

Lynn Blackburn delivers another slow-burn, small-town drama that unfolds into a burst of romantic suspense that will have readers on the edge of their seats.

HIGHLIGHTS:
-Small, Mountain Town Romance
-Close-Knit Family and Friends
-Protective Police Chief
-Free-Spirited Heroine
-Nefarious Happenings in the Next County

I enjoyed coming back to Gossamer Falls, NC and the rich, Appalachian heritage that Blackburn expertly wove into this story through the tight bond of close friends and big families. There's definitely that small town feeling happening as sinister events come into play, involving the town's beloved dentist and the guarded police chief. I loved the camaraderie and banter between the characters, the protective love from the members of the Quinn family and the tension building between Meredith and Gray. When the suspense ramped up rapidly, Blackburn had me riveted. With faith, family and romance, this story had it all!

Overall, a good read that's a slower pace than I'm used to with mild, low-key suspense that doesn't amp up until the third act. I didn't care much for the female main character, but I loved the male main character and side characters. In fact, I can't wait for Mo and Bronwyn's story next!
