About This Book:
A mysterious package. A name she thought she'd erased. And the one person she never expected to see again.
Tess Holcomb has built a new life in Alabama, repairing timepieces and avoiding her troubled past as she restores her customers' family heirlooms--treasures she never had. When a mysterious package arrives addressed to Teresa Baker, the name she abandoned, Tess finds herself drawn into a puzzle that threatens her delicate peace.
Then Elliot Sullivan appears at her door after eighteen years, and Tess knows he's after more than just forgiveness. She doesn't trust his motives, but he could be the key to uncovering the origin of the mystery package and its cryptic contents.
Tess has found safety in her simple life, but to reunite this lost heirloom with its rightful recipient she will have to come out of hiding. Each clue leads her further from the security of home, and each story reveals hidden truths. The question is whether she's brave enough to face what she might find--and whether the man beside her can be trusted with what matters most.
Award-winning author Amanda Cox crafts an intercontinental journey of connection, healing, love, community, and belonging perfect for book clubs, fans of Southern fiction, and readers of T. I. Lowe, Charles Martin, Sara Brunsvold, and Valerie Fraser Luesse.
MY REVIEW: ★★★★★/5
Amanda Cox once again delivers a powerful, poignant story of self-discovery, letting go and forgiveness using her signature, masterful storytelling style that I have come to know, love and expect when picking up one of her new releases.
Things We Cannot Keep holds characters and story that burrowed deep into my heart and lingered long after the book has ended.
Tess's story, a life of brokenness and pain, leading to a life of carefully constructed professionalism and isolation is one that is relatable and significant. The mystery behind the watch left in her protection and the journey it takes her on not only kept me invested, but also entertained as her past pain and regrets rise up around her, threatening to breach the walls she's built around her heart for so long. Elliot's sweet, gentle companionship and the unresolved tension between him and Tess spurred me on through the story, enjoying their travels and the unfolding of the watch's mystery. I also loved the many side characters who supported Tess and encouraged her along the way and the rhythmic pace at which this story flows, encouraging me to linger a little longer each time.
If you're looking for a heartwarming story of redemption, forgiveness and faith with a contemporary glimpse into historic events, look no further. Savoring this story will be time you won't soon regret. I know I don’t!
