For one journalist, the story of a lifetime is hitting too close to home.

Sarah Denning is a military journalist with the Army in the Middle East when she is taken hostage. When former Army Ranger Gavin Black is asked by his old unit commander--Sarah's imposing father--to plan an extremely risky rescue, he reluctantly agrees and successfully executes it.

Back in the US, Sarah is livid when she's discharged on a false psychiatric evaluation and vows to return to the Army. Until she learns of her brother's suicide. Unable to believe her brother would do such a thing, she puts her plans on hold and enlists Gavin to help her discover the truth. What they uncover may be the biggest story of Sarah's career--if she can survive long enough to write it.

My ★★★★★ Mini Review: What a great new read from seasoned author Lynette Eason! While I managed to miss reading book one of the Danger Never Sleeps series first, this second book was very enjoyable and easily read as a standalone novel. I devoured this story in a short amount of time as the result of a fast-paced, exciting storyline with plenty of action. I found the main characters, Sarah and Gavin, to be tenacious and strong. Might I even add that Gavin was swoon-worthy? I loved how he protected Sarah and his tender care for her was so evident in his thoughts and actions. I also enjoyed watching Sarah’s heart change and grow as she worked through her past.

The story begins with an intense opener, slows to a mild suspense then builds in intensity, calms again and repeats, which made for a good reading pace. The romance between Sarah and Gavin leaves nothing to be desired as I chuckled over their conversation, watched their bond grow and discovered the depth each of them brought to the relationship.

This story delves lightly into the topic of suicide and PTSD without being too heavy. Either focus may be a trigger for those who’ve dealt with those feelings/actions in their own lives, or loved ones lives, so if you fall into that category, do tread carefully into this story. I feel that Eason handles the realities of these topics delicately and offers hope in her story as well. This book is best enjoyed in the context that it was intended, which is suspense and not meant to be a deep dive into the complexities of suicide or PTSS/PTSD.

Overall, I found Acceptable Risk to be an uncomplicated, enjoyable story that left me excited to go back and read the first book in the series, as well as eagerly anticipate the next book coming! It is one that I highly recommend to those who enjoy romantic suspense and mild thrillers. This story was clean and is appropriate for mature readers 16+.
