C.S. Lewis

The Boy who loved to ask big questions

Written by Laura Caputo-Wickham, Illustrated by Keila Elm

Published by The Good Book Co.

ABOUT THIS BOOK:

Kids will see how good questions can lead to a close relationship with Christ as they discover the true story of C.S. Lewis. His love of learning, stories and Jesus led him to create Narnia and write many other beloved books.

C.S. Lewis was curious and creative from his earliest days, and this biography walks kids through both fun and formative questions he asked and where they led him.

Through engaging storytelling and delightful illustrations, kids will learn about Lewis' famous stories and his friendship with J.R.R. Tolkien, as well as the suffering he faced when loved ones died and when he was injured in World War I. Most importantly, kids will hear how C.S. Lewis came to answer questions like “Why does God let bad things happen?” and “Is God even real?”

My Thoughts:

As huge fans of the Do Great Things for God series, we were so excited to see C.S. Lewis featured in the newest release. My second grader and I have already read this book multiple times because we love it so much. The story is simple yet engaging, easy for kids to understand, inspirational and full of encouragement.

We loved following young “Jack” (who later became C.S. Lewis) as he asked big questions, walked through loss, served in war, and eventually became a believer, then friendship with J.R.R. Tolkien, all leading to the creation of The Chronicles of Narnia.

The illustrations within are beautiful, and the story is both relatable and inspiring. As a Christian parent, I appreciated that this story holds a light salvation message.

This series is such a treasure for families, homeschoolers, and school libraries. It is faith-filled, factual, and truly delightful. Highly recommend for boys and girls alike!

John Knox

The boy who changed a country

Written by Sinclair Ferguson, Illustrated by Cecilia Messina

Published by The Good Book Co.

ABOUT THIS BOOK:

A true tale of adventure, the story of John Knox inspires kids to have courage because of Christ.

Kids will follow John Knox’s exciting life through the twists and turns of persecution, enslavement, exile, and a crucial role in the Reformation.

Vivid illustrations bring the cannons, castles, and other features of John Knox’s story to life. Renowned theologian Sinclair Ferguson’s engaging storytelling conveys a clear call to trust in Jesus.

My Thoughts:

Another wonderful addition to the Do Great Things for God series is the inspiring biography of John Knox. Living in the 1500s during the reign of Queen Mary, Knox was an ordinary man whom God used as a teacher, priest, prisoner, and eventually a courageous preacher to the British King. This story highlights his faithfulness through danger and persecution, making him a true hero of the Christian faith. The book is easy to read, historically accurate, beautifully illustrated, and includes a helpful timeline at the end. A perfect resource for homeschoolers, classrooms, and children’s libraries alike!
