With all the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, Iβve enjoyed finding new crafts and activities to keep my toddler busy while I work on my own projects or work in the kitchen. One of my favorite go-to activities right now are invitations to create and play, something you might enjoy too!
These little DIY tray are so easy to set up during nap time or on the spur of the moment as a fun surprise for your child! They take just under two minutes to assemble using items you have around the house. For this particular tray, I used some items from our craft closet, Christmas goodies and scented Play-Doh I picked up at Target this week.
Something to keep in mind when creating these kits, is to use what YOU have! Think outside the box and use items that may not necessarily have been intended for play (as long as itβs safe, that is!).

I highly recommend setting up this invitation to play in an area where you can supervise from a distance when you donβt intend to participate if you have a toddler. I usually set our trays on the kitchen table and sit nearby or cook dinner as my 2.5 year old plays. I like to pop over and make sure the items are staying in the general vicinity and I create on-the-go with my daughter. When weβre done with it, we simply put everything back in the tray and I store it out of reach until she asks for it again or I need a few minutes to get something done.
This really is such a fun little kit! Itβs perfect for developing fine motor skills, offering sensory input and creating focused time that encourages your childβs imagination! Not to mention, this can be used as an excellent way to spend quality time TOGETHER with your child during this busy season. Also, if you have older children, you may even find they canβt resist the pull of the imagination sparking inside them too!
