★★★★ | I was honored to be asked to review the new “Heroines of WWII” series from Barbour Publishing. This series features historical fiction centered around the war and the women who so bravely stepped up and out into a man’s world to work and serve while men fought overseas.
The Cryptographer’s Dilemma was exciting, fascinating and delightful!
It featured all the earmarks of an entertaining novel: great characters, a well-developed plot, personal struggles, a blossoming romance and well-researched historical facts.
I enjoyed the fast pace of the story that delivered twists and turns which kept me fully engaged. The main characters, Eloise and Phillip, were strong, independent and their unique personalities came alive within the pages. Their romance was sweet and tender and I enjoyed watching it evolve.
Author Johnnie Alexander curated this fictitious novel based on true events in our nation’s history, by bringing the era of WWII alive with her narrative, character development and dialogue. She delves into the world of espionage, the early years of the FBI and breaking codes in a way that entertains and enlightens readers as the story unfolds. She also includes some faith-based elements that are subtle, yet powerful as her characters face their own pasts and find hope along the way.
I personally found it inspiring and refreshing to read about a young woman who bravely stepped into a man’s world, using her brilliant mind and talents to serve her country during wartime. The women of that era impacted the future and our current times immensely as they paved the way towards opportunities and careers that many women enjoy today.
