About This Book:
An abandoned estate encased in stagnant darkness . . .
A haunting legacy intent on silencing all within reach . . .
In 1890, the ominous tolling of the bell announces that death has come to Traeger Hall, leaving orphaned Waverly Pembrooke to piece together the puzzle behind her uncle's and aunt's murders. Bound by the terms of her uncle's eccentric will, Waverly finds herself alone in a manor shrouded by death and questioning the reasons for her uncle's paranoia. A madness hovers over Traeger Hall, and Waverly--as well as the people of nearby Newton Creek--are ill-prepared for the woe that has descended.
In present day Newton Creek, whispers of a family curse still cling to the century-old, abandoned property of Traeger Hall. When Jennie Phillips takes possession of the estate after her mother's passing, she is intent on solving the mystery of the Traeger murders. Yet a modern cold case suggests that untimely deaths and mysterious occurrences still plague the property. And as thorny truths surface, Jennie realizes the dark legacy threatens not only the town and the Traeger descendants . . . but also, chillingly, Jennie herself.
"Readers will be eager to take this twisty, suspense-filled ride."--Publishers Weekly on Specters in the Glass House

MY REVIEW: ★★★★★ 5/5
The Bell Tolls at Traegar Hall did not disappoint! As a longtime fan of Jaime Jo Wright’s books, I eagerly await her new releases and this one was everything I expected and hoped for. Wright, once again, masterfully blends the right amount of spooky secrets and mysterious intrigue with faith-filled hope and emotional depth. Her stories always carry that deliciously eerie atmosphere without ever crossing into “too scary,” and this one struck that balance with perfection.
I loved the dual timelines and the way both heroines mirrored each other by living under emotional abuse and control, each yearning for freedom, truth and redemption. The heroes in both timelines played quieter roles, but their strength, protectiveness and genuine care added warmth and romance to the story in a heartwarming way. I daresay, I've never read a book with a swoony undertaker before, but Wright nailed it!
With a haunting setting, well-paced suspense, mysterious secrets and budding romance woven seamlessly throughout, this book is the perfect October read. It’s ideal for readers who love dual timelines, well-crafted characters and a touch of gothic mystery without [too much] horror. Once again, Wright proves she’s the queen of spooky, inspirational suspense and I look forward to more from her in the future.
Content and Trigger Warning: Deceased bodies (descriptions) , emotional abuse, hinted-at alternate forms of abuse during childhood, loss of a family member due to cancer (light).
