ABOUT THE BOOK:

My requirements for a man are simple. Must love books. Must NOT love hockey.

Which is why I will never be interested in my neighbor, the aloof and mysterious Felix Jamison, no matter how many books I see him hauling into his apartment. Unless he loses his pro hockey skates, I’m out.

But then he shows up at my symphony concert.

And I catch the sweet strains of Beethoven floating across the hall.

Have I mentioned how incredible he looks in his game day suit?

Still, my history with hockey is complicated. My older brother played, and let’s just say he stole enough limelight to land a plane at midnight. I was forced to be a part of that world for so long, now that I have a choice, it’s the last thing I want.

But something tells me Felix is about to change my mind…

Absolutely Not in Love is a closed-door hockey romcom with neighbor vibes between a bookish hockey goalie and a classical cellist, some forced proximity, and all the swoony chemistry!

MY REVIEW: ★★★★★ 5/5 Stars

Y’all, everytime I read a new Jenny Proctor release, I say it’s my favorite - because IT IS! She just keeps topping herself with these fantastic, sweet, clean reads.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Forced Proximity

  • Music Teacher, Cellist FMC

  • Hockey Player MMC

  • Small Town Neighbors

  • Strong Family Dynamics

  • A Secret Book Library

  • Classical Music Tattoo

MY Thoughts:

I couldn’t have loved Felix and Gracie more! This delightful read offers a fantastic amount of forced proximity, which is always fun (in my opinion). As neighbors and classical music lovers, these two adorable, relatable characters connect and a romance brews. When a pipe bursts in Gracie’s apartment, she moves in temporarily with her neighbor, hockey player and local celebrity, Felix.

As always, I love reading the dual POV from both the MMC and the FMC! Proctor highly entertained me with a look into each characters’ innermost thoughts and it was THE BEST. Gracie, a music teacher, is so sweet and darling. Felix is a lovable teddy bear; a perfect book boyfriend! I was excited to read his story after meeting him in Emma St. Clair’s book (Book 1 of the Sweater Weather series) and thought Jenny Proctor couldn’t have developed him into a more perfect fit for Gracie.

I definitely felt the swoon in various parts of this story and loved how hard these two fell for each other. It was refreshing that they didn’t fight against it, but rather grew together as they overcame their struggles. I liked that Gracie made Felix more confident and flirtatious and that Felix caused Gracie to question her hard-and-fast rule to not date hockey players.

Summary:

A MUST READ for fall! Readers will find threads of social anxiety, mental health awareness, family dynamics and a hint of “never say never” in this story.

Note: This standalone novel is part of a series presented by various authors and my review reflects this book alone (I’m excited to read other books in this series as well!).

Content + Trigger Notes:

PG (kissing only). Light swearing (5 different uses of h— or d—-).
