The World is Awake for Little Ones

Written by Lindsey Davis with Joseph Bottum, Illustrated by Lucy Fleming

This joyful journey through an ordinary day inspires children to be thankful for all of God’s blessings that surround them. From blooming flowers in the backyard to the roaring animals at the zoo … the world is awake!

My Review: With a durable hardcover, this board book is small, adorable and fun! The words are gentle and rhyme, making this enjoyable to read and easy for little ones to grasp. It covers celebrating the wonder and joy of the many gifts God has given us through His creation as it moves through the morning time and outdoors to an afternoon trip the zoo and meal time as a family together. This sweet books encourages gratitude and praise as well. The illustrations are simply darling and very colorful, with lots of detail for little ones to discover and point out. My three year old daughter loves it! Appropriate for ages 1-5. Would make great baby shower gift or child’s birthday gift.

I Wonder, Exploring God’s Grand Story: An Illustrated Bible

Written by Glenys Nellist, Illustrated by Alessandra Fusi

I Wonder: Exploring God’s Grand Story, an Illustrated Bible, by critically acclaimed author Glenys Nellist, is an inspirational Bible that encourages children to ponder the truths God has placed in their hearts by asking thought-provoking, open-ended questions after each story.

My Review: This book is simply lovely! By paraphrasing the Bible and stories from the Old and New Testaments, this presents the Bible in a way children can easily understand. At the end of each section, it gives a handful of statements that work as conversation starters and thought provoking questions, each beginning with “I wonder….” The illustrations are very vibrant but still simple so as not to detract from the Word of God. I believe this is an excellent tool to help children understand the Bible and encourage curiosity about the stories in God’s word. This would be a great resource for homeschooling and would make a lovely gift for preschoolers-elementary age children.

Love Is

Illustrations by Paola Escobar

Love Is brings the text of 1 Corinthians 13 to life in a unique and fresh perspective. Readers see, through the beautiful, nature-filled illustrations from critically acclaimed artist Paola Escobar, that from beginning to end and through good times and challenging ones, love is a constant positive force in the lives of those touched by it.

My Review: This is such a gorgeous picture book! While it says ages 4-8, I believe even toddlers can enjoy the incredibly beautiful illustrations of animals and nature while listening to someone read aloud the short, sweet words. Breaking down 1 Corinthians 13:1, the chapter on love, this book very sweetly shares that love patient, love is kind, and goes to say all the things that love is (and does) by paraphrasing Scripture. I found this book to be something quite special and a beautiful way to tuck Scripture into my little one’s heart.
