Easter Egg Day by Tara Knudson, Illustrated by Pauline Siewert
My Review: This sweet little board book is the perfect story to read before doing your Easter egg dye tradition (that is, if you have one!). The soft, lyrical prose and brightly colored illustrations come together in this adorable short story about dying eggs to share with friends and family and use in an Easter egg hunt. Not only does this book emphasize kindness in sharing, but it encourages one on one time together, doing something creative and fun! My favorite parts, as a parent, are the creative ideas inside, learning color mixes and the cute little tutorial for dyeing eggs on the back cover! The bunnies and their little friends are darling and my nearly two year old daughter found this book to be fun and entertaining. The words are short and sweet, which held her attention span at this age. Appropriate for ages 1+.
Little Duckling’s Easter Prayers, Illustrated by Kasia Nowowiejska
My Review: This perfectly adorable hardcover board book features 15 short prayers that encourage little ones to enjoy the wonders of spring, offer heartfelt gratitude to the Creator, recognize how He cares for us and praise Him. Plus, each one has a scripture reference noted to emphasize the truth in the prayer. The last few prayers walk beautifully through God’s love for us, His sacrifice for our sins, the fact that He is alive today and returning again. What a simple and yet profound truth to sow into a little one’s heart and mind at an early age. I believe reading one little prayer each evening or before bedtime would as an age appropriate devotion would be a great idea! I really enjoy the truths this little book holds and the truly adorable illustrations! | Appropriate for ages 1+.
Ten Little Eggs: A Celebration of Family, Illustrated by Jess Mikhail
My Review: This hardcover book offers large, glossy paper pages sharing the story of a Mama bird who’s excitedly wondering what her little eggs will be. As each egg cracks open, a new and often surprising creature appears! This book is delightful and silly, but celebrates that families come in all shapes and size and puts emphasis on the love that binds them. As an adoptive family, this is a value I cherish. This book doesn’t offer any faith based elements, but it does hold a beautiful truth in the gift of love. I think it is great as a read-aloud, laugh-aloud book! Appropriate for ages 2+.
