★★★★★ | I recently had the opportunity to read and review this newly released book from Shiloh Kidz, an imprint of Barbour Publishing. I absolutely fell in love with this beautiful book. With a gorgeous, eye-catching cover, this book offers glossy pages and a featured “gift page” where you can add “to”, “from” and the date with a little message if you’d like. There is a glossary and then 12 featured biographies of some extraordinary women who I’ve long admired in my lifetime including missionaries Gladys Aylward and Amy Carmichael, nurse Clara Barton, Holocaust survivor Corrie Ten Boom and Underground Railroad guide Harriet Tubman. Each page offers the dates these women lived and a short paragraph or two about their lives and the incredible impact they had on society. At the end of each story, there’s an encouragement for young readers to apply to their daily lives with a scripture reference to support it.
I believe this book can be a valuable resource for any young girl’s library. It is educational, inspirational and empowering. It would make an excellent homeschool resource as a base in which to spark deeper studies into these women’s lives, teachings and faith. It also would make a great Mom & Daughter or Grandma & Granddaughter time mini devotional to create conversations centered around the encouragement and Scriptures. The illustrations are pretty, girly and unique. Appropriate for ages 5-10.
