These Hands | Weekly Photo & Story Prompt
This week, I am excited to have Meg of Marmalade Mementos joining us and hosting our weekly prompt. Here is the theme she has presented us:
"These hands of mine have done so much throughout my life. They help me to accomplish the basic tasks of the day such as buttoning up my jacket on a cold winter day or pushing the button that will soon result in my much-needed coffee in the morning. These hands have received more compliments than any other part of me throughout my life (most frequently, "You have great fingernails! Are they real?"). These hands have delivered affection, consolation, and congratulations to loved ones, serve as the home-base for my wedding rings, and allow me to express myself more enthusiastically than with words alone. But as well as I feel like I know these hands, one thing about them has always confused me. While these hands can fly over keys of a computer at over 80 words per minute, coordinating with each other effortlessly as if it were a skill inherited at birth, they falter when it comes to the similar task of working together on the keys of a piano. Years of piano lessons, practice, and recitals during childhood have fallen away, the valuable real estate these skills used to take up in my brain now replaced with the more immediate needs of adult responsibilities. "Fur Elise" taken over by "press release," "The Spinning Song" replaced by "the thesis paper." I long for the days when these hands had the ability to work together to make music, rather than just to make sentences. With enough practice, I hope these hands will regain that ability someday." - Meg
